Brief Description | |
MS06-018 is not categorized as virus, worm, Trojan or backdoor. It is a group of moderate vulnerabilities in the MSDTC (Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator), on Windows 2003/XP/2000 computers, which allows DoS (Denial of Service) attacks to be launched against the vulnerable computer. If exploited successfully, MS06-018 allows hackers to cause the computer to stop responding. MS06-018 is exploited by creating a specially crafted packet that is sent to the vulnerable computer. Although it is possible to launch this type of attacks across the Internet, a firewall could be used in order to prevent those attacks. If you have a Windows 2003/XP/2000 computer, it is recommendable to download and apply the security patch for this vulnerability. Click here to access the web page for downloading the patch. |
