LowZones.L is a Trojan that affects Windows 2003/XP/2000/NT computers only. Lowzones.L downloads and installs several adware and spyware programs to the affected computer.
In order to do so, LowZones.L lowers the security settings for the Internet Explorer zones, so that the user is not prompted whenever an ActiveX code is to be downloaded.
LowZones.L does not spread automatically using its own means. It needs an attacking user's intervention in order to reach the affected computer. The means of transmission used include, among others, floppy disks, CD-ROMs, e-mail messages with attached files, Internet downloads, FTP, IRC channels, peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing networks, etc.
LowZones.L is difficult to recognize, as it does not display any messages or warnings that indicate it has reached the computer.
