Kelar.E is a worm that affects Windows 2003/XP/2000/NT computers only. Kelar.E exploits the Buffer Overrun in RPC Interface vulnerability to spread to as many computers as possible.
Kelar.E installs the hacking tool NTRootKit, which allows to gain administrator rights on Windows 2003/XP/2000/NT computers, in order to perform the following actions, among others: hide processes, log keystrokes, run files and block the computer. It then connects to several IRC servers in order to send information on the attacked computer to the creator of the worm.
Kelar.E spreads by attacking IP addresses it has gained access to through the TCP 135 port, and in which it has succeed in exploiting the vulnerability mentioned above.
If you have a Windows 2003/XP/2000/NT computer, it is highly recommendable to download the security patch from the Microsoft website. Access the web page for downloading the patch.
A clear indication that Kelar.E has reached the computer is that the network traffic increases on the TCP 135 port.
