Erase is a boot virus that infects the boot sector of floppy disks and of hard disks.
Erase infects the hard disk of a computer when it is booted from a floppy disk that is infected with this virus. From then on, all of the floppy disks used on that computer will be infected and it will have problems starting up.
Erase also affects the hard disk's Master Boot Record. Once the computer has been booted from an infected floppy disk, the virus will go resident in the system.
Erase damages the floppy disks with a size other than 1.44 MB, such as those that are 720 KB in size.
Erase is easy to recognize, as it causes problems starting up affected computers.
In addition, infected computers will not be able to read the damaged floppy disks (those with a size other than 1.44 MB).
