Piece.A is a macro virus that infects Word documents and the global template.
It activates when the system date is May 28. On this date, Piece.A deletes every file with an INI extension that it finds in the Windows directory.
Piece.A uses the means normally used by macro viruses to spread. First of all, it infects the global template, and from then on, it will infect every Word document opened, closed or saved on the affected computer.
In addition, Piece.A disables several Word options and spreads via e-mail.
Piece.A is very easy to recognize, as when an infected Word document is opened, the virus sends an e-mail message to the first fifty contacts in the Address Book. This e-mail message has the following characteristics:
