Winsound is a Trojan that does not carry out any destructive actions. The only effect of this virus is that it displays some messages when the computer is started up.
In order to carry out its infection, Winsound needs the following conditions to be met:
- There must be a file called MSVBVM50.DLL on the affected computer. This is a default dynamic link library found on computers with the operating system Windows 98 installed, but not in Windows 95.
- The computer must have a sound card and its corresponding controllers installed.
Winsound reaches computers through the usual means used by viruses. It reaches computers in an executable file, usually called WINSOUND.EXE, which is 34,725 bytes in size.
Winsound is easy to identify, as when it infects computers it displays the following messages:
- Cuidado com o comigo...
- Eu voutarei...
- Autoexec.bat destruido...
- Mentira, eu no vou voltar...
