Cap.DY is a macro virus that reaches computers in an infected Word 95 or Word 97 document with a DOC extension. From there it infects Word’s global template (NORMAL.DOT file) and spreads to all the Word files generated with this template.
Cap.DY does not carry out any destructive actions on the computers it infects, as its only aims are to spread and disable some options in Word’s Tools menu.
Cap.DY is difficult to recognize, as it does not display any messages or warnings that indicate that it has infected a computer.
However, the user of the Word program will not be able to access the Macro or Customize options in the Tools menu.
