Footer.A is a macro virus that deletes the footnotes found in infected documents, replacing them with a text that contains the name of the documents.
Like most macro viruses, Footer.A:
- Reaches computers in an already infected Word 97 document, with DOC extension. This document then infects the Word template (NORMAL.DOT file) and spreads its infection to every Word document generated with it.
- It disables the macros in Word 97 documents, trying to go unnoticed by users.
The main symptom that might indicate the presence of Footer.A on the system is the fact that footnotes in affected documents are replaced with a text that contains the name of the documents in question
