- PowerPoint 2000.
- Office for Mac:
- Office 2008 for Mac.
- Office 2004 for Mac.
- Open XML File Format Converter for Mac.
- Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats.
- Works 9.0 and 8.5.
If exploited successfully, MS09-017 allows hackers to gain remote control of the affected computer with the same privileges as the logged on user. If this user had administrator rights, the hacker could take complete control of the system: create, modify or delete files, install programs, create new user accounts, etc.
This vulnerability is usually exploited by creating a specially crafted file and enticing users to execute it. This file can be distributed via email, hosted in a website, etc.
