Class.Generic is a Word Macro virus that reaches computers in an infected Word 97 document, with a DOC extension. Then, it infects the Word template (NORMAL.DOT file).
The effects of Class.Generic are more irritating than dangerous:
- It prevents macros from being edited, as well as access to the Visual Basic Editor.
- It changes some options in the Word 97 main window.
- It changes the Word 97 configuration.
- It changes the text of infected documents, moving it from left to right at random.
Class.Generic can reach computers in an infected Word document through different means of transmission.
Class.Generic does not show any symptoms that can alert the user that it has reached the system.
However, once the virus has infected the computer, it displays a series of very noticeable symptoms: it moves the texts of open documents from left to right, the computer makes strange sounds when certain keys are pressed, etc.
