Brief Description 

    

Opey.M es is a macro virus that does not have any dangerous effects, as the main actions of this virus involve modifying Word user data and the properties of the Word documents it infects.

Opey.M also infects and disables certain options in Word 97 documents. It is activated every time an infected Word 97 document is closed. This document can reach computers through various means: CD-ROMs, e-mail messages with infected attachments, etc.

Visible Symptoms 

    

Opey.M gives several indications that it has infected a computer, although it is necessary to know where they are in order to to detect them. 

  • It modifies the data of the registered Word user, replacing it with the following:
    Name: Ulysses R. Gotera.
    Initials:
     URG.
    Address:
     FoxChit SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS.

This information can be accessed by selecting the User Information, in Tools – Options.


  • It modifies the properties of infected Word documents, replacing them with the following:
    Author: Ulysses R. Gotera.
    Password:
    FoxChit SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS.
