Panda GateDefender Integra offers the option to operate in high availability to improve protection stability. This mode of functioning combines various appliances in a cluster to ensure availability of critical services and to provide redundancy and fault tolerance.
For practical purposes, the cluster works as a single virtual unit with one IP address (virtual).
When the Panda GateDefender Integra units in the cluster start, the administrator can choose one as the Master and the rest will automatically become Slaves.
The master unit controls the inbound traffic. The slaves wait and save a backup copy of the settings of the whole cluster. If the master unit fails, the slave with highest IP address will become the master, taking over all the management and protection functions of its predecessor.
When the original master unit is operative again, it will recover its initial status, relegating the unit that replaced it to its original status; i.e., slave.
