How do I block fragmented POP3 traffic in Panda GateDefender Performa?

Certain mail clients, like Microsoft Outlook Express, allow a technique to be used for sending and receiving mail. These messages are called fragmented as they are split into smaller segments in order to be sent and received. Panda GateDefender Performa does not scan these types of messages.

Companies usually block this kind of POP3 traffic, as it is usually sent from personal mail accounts, not corporate, and can often open a door to viruses in a corporate network.

As Panda GateDefender Performa scans all protocols at connection level, it is important to block this type of traffic in the GateDefender or, if possible, in the Firewall.

Panda GateDefender Performa is configured to delete these messages by default. In order to disable this option, follow these steps:

  1. Access the web administration console.
  2. In the menu on the left, click on Protection settings and select Content Filter protection.
  3. Click on Mails and news protection settings.
  4. At the bottom of the window under Vulnerabilities, enable the Block partial messages checkbox.
  5. Click on Save to apply the changes.

If you cannot block this type of traffic, because it is commonly used in your company, install antivirus protection that is specially designed for workstations and internal servers, such as the corporate antivirus solutions.
