Exchange Server logs or database files are locked or quarantined while the Exchange Server tries to use the file

Symptoms

Inconsistencies, blockage of processes and even database corruption on the Exchange databases.

These issues can be caused when file-level scanners, such as antivirus programs, scan a file when it is used or at a scheduled interval.

Solution

Refer to the following Microsoft recommendations in order to exclude certain Exchange folders and file types from real time and schedule antivirus scanning.

Note: In PCOP Advanced, after enabling the Exchange Servers protection in the profile settings, the program will automatically include the exclusions recommended by Microsoft Exchange Server, without having to add them manually.

Additional information

If the Exchange server is installed on Windows 2000 SBS Server or if POP3 connectors are used, the following exclusions must also be done:

  • SBS POP3 executables %PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Networking\POP3\
  • SBS POP3 connector Incoming Mail %PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Networking\POP3\Incoming Mail
  • SBS POP3 connector Failed Mail %PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Networking\POP3\Failed Mail

The default path could vary if the system Administrator has installed the Exchange server in another folder.
