Brief Description

Mytob.EN is a Trojan with backdoor characteristics that connects to an IRC server in order to receive control commands, which allow the affected computer to be remotely administrated.

This Trojan ends processes belonging to several security tools, such as antivirus programs and firewalls, among others. It also ends processes belonging to other malware.

Mytob.EN sends email messages in which it attempts to deceive users into believing that they must confirm their email account so that it is not cancelled. In order to do so, the message includes a link.

Aditionally, it prevents users from accessing certain web pages, mostly belonging to antivirus companies.

Mytob.EN does not spread automatically using its own means. It needs an attacking user's intervention in order to reach the affected computer. The means of transmission used include, among others, floppy disks, CD-ROMs, email messages with attached files, Internet downloads, FTP, IRC channels, peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing networks, etc.

Visible Symptoms

Mytob.EN is difficult to recognize, as it does not display any messages or warnings that indicate it has reached the computer.
