Brief Description

MS05-006 is not categorized as virus, worm, Trojan or backdoor. It is a moderate vulnerability, known as Vulnerability in Windows SharePoint Services, which allows to remotely execute arbitrary code in the vulnerable computer.

This vulnerability affects the following products:

  • Windows SharePoint Services
  • SharePoint Team Services.

If exploited successfully, MS05-006 allows hackers to remotely execute arbitrary code in the affected computer with the same privileges as the logged on user. It may also be possible for an attacker to exploit the vulnerability to modify Web browser caches and intermediate proxy server caches and to put spoofed content in those caches.

This vulnerability is exploited by creating a malicious e-mail message and sending it to a user of a server that is running an affected program, and then enticing the user to click a link in the e-mail message.

If you have any of the vulnerable programs installed on your computer, it is recommendable to download and apply the security patch for this vulnerability. Click here to access the web page for downloading the patch.
