Visible Symptoms

Backterra.B is easy to recognize once it has reached the computer, as it displays the following messages on screen:

  • If the file sharing program eMule is not installed, it pretends to be a key generator:

  • If the user inserts any information in the form and pushes the button Make a key, Backterra.B displays an error message:

  • If eMule is installed on the affected computer but Backterra.B is unable to locate the file SHAREDDIR.DAT, it displays the error message above.
  • Finally, if eMule is installed and Backterra.B locates the file SHAREDDIR.DAT, it displays the error message and is ready to spread.
