Type:Vulnerability
Affected platforms:

worm, Trojan or backdoor. It is a group of important vulnerabilities in SharePoint, which allows to launch denial of service attacks, information to be disclosed and spoofing.

The vulnerable components are:

  • Office InfoPath 2007/2003.
  • Office SharePoint Server 2007.
  • Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

If exploited successfully, an attacking user could run commands against the SharePoint server with the same rights as the affected user, launch cross-site scripting atacks against users of a targeted SharePoint site and cause the web server to stop responding until it is restarted.

It is usually exploited by distributing a specially crafted link by sending it via email or hosting it in a website and enticing users to click on it, by submitting a specially crafted script to a target SharePoint site or by submitting specially crafted requests to the Help page of the SharePoint server.

If you have any of the vulnerable components, it is recommended to download and apply the security patch for this vulnerability. Click here to access the web page for downloading the patch.

Bear in mind that this security patch replaces a previous one, called MS08-077, depending on the versions.
