MS09-070

Threat LevelLow threatDamageHighDistributionNot widespread
Type:Vulnerability
Affected platforms:

Windows 2003

worm, Trojan or backdoor. It is a group of important vulnerabilities in the Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) on Windows Server 2008/2003, which allows arbitrary code to be remotely executed and spoofing.

If exploited successfully, MS09-070 allows hackers to gain remote control of the affected computer with the same privileges as the logged on user. It also could allow an attacking user to impersonate an authenticated user.

MS09-070 is usually exploited by accessing specific data from the browser's cache and reusing it to authenticate against the web application implementing ADFS single sign-on (SSO). It could also be exloited by sending a specially crafted HTTP request to an ADFS-enabled web server. In order to exploit this vulnerability, the attacking user must be authenticated.

If you have a Windows Server 2008/2003 computer, it is recommended to download and apply the security patch for this vulnerability. Click here to access the web page for downloading the patch.
