Brief Description 

    

BlackAngel.A is a worm that attempts to disable the processes belonging to several security tools, such as antivirus programs and firewalls, among others. It prevents users from accessing certain operating system tools such as the Task Manager and the Registry Editor.

Additionally, it shuts down the computer. This way, the information that had not been saved until that moment could not be recovered.

BlackAngel.A spreads via the instant messaging program MSN Messenger.

Visible Symptoms 

    

BlackAngel.A can be easily recognized, as it displays the following symptoms:

  • The user receives one of the following instant messages via MSN Messenger:
    - jaja look a that video www.ideaelcel.esp.st
    - mira este video www.ideaelcel.esp.st jaja
  • When the user clicks on any of the links, an executable file that passes itself off as a Windows Media Player file is downloaded to the computer:



    This file has a double extension, in order to trick users that have the option Hide file extensions for known file types enabled.
  • When the file is run, one of the following messages is displayed on the screen:
