Different firewall configurations in Endpoint Protection

Informatie van toepassing op:

Products
Endpoint Protection
Endpoint Protection Plus

From Endpoint Protection 6.50 version, the PCOP firewall will only be installed if required by the chosen configuration. In addition, it is important to bear in mind that, from version 6.0, it is possible to set a different firewall configuration for workstations and servers in the same profile.

This is particularly important as version 6.50 coexists with version 5.50, which is deployed to the computers which do not meet the minimum requirements for version 6.50 (see Installation requirements).

Warning: In this article we will establish a difference between version 6.0 Legacy (version 5.50 migrated to the 6.0 console) and version 6.50 UA (version 6.50 and later).

Taking into account these scenarios, the possible firewall configurations in PCOP are as follows:

Migration

If the profile existed before migrating to version 6.50, the firewall (Fw) configuration will be as follows:

5.50 (before migration)

6.0 Legacy (w2000, etc.)

6.50 UA

Fw not installed

Fw not installed(1)

Fw not installed

Managed Fw, disabled

Fw disabled

Fw not installed

Managed Fw, enabled

Fw enabled on workstations and servers.

Fw enabled on workstations and servers

Personal Fw

Personal Fw

Personal Fw not installed. It will be installed when the user enables it

Description:

  • 5.50 (before migration): Refers to the existing firewall configuration before migrating to the 6.0 console.
  • 6.0 Legacy: Refers to the Legacy protection configuration after migrating to the 6.0 console.
  • 6.50 UA: Refers to the UA protection configuration after migrating to version 6.50.
  • Managed Fw: The firewall is managed and configured through the Web console. End-users cannot change the settings.
  • Personal Fw: End-users can change the firewall settings by themselves.

*Note (1): Depending on the firewall configuration that existed in the profile before the migration, once migrated, the profile will show one of the following configurations:

  • If, in version 5.50, the option Apply the following settings to the firewall was selected, regardless of whether the Enable firewall checkbox was selected or not, the settings will look like this after migration:

  • If, in version 5.50, the option Let computer users configure the firewall was selected, regardless of whether the Enable firewall checkbox was selected or not, the settings will look like this after migration:

If, later, the administrator wants to install the firewall in the Legacy version, you will have two options:

  • The first option is to select the following settings:

  • The second option is to select the following settings:

If, before the migration, the profile was configured to Let computers users configure the firewall, to install the firewall with that configuration the administrator will have to make a change (for example select the Apply the following settings to the firewall option) and then select again Let computer users configure the firewall. Finally, click Save.

New profiles in version 6.50

After the migration to version 6.50, if the administrator creates a new profile, the firewall configuration will be as follows:

Fw installed and disabled
