Why does a screen appear with a security warning?
ActiveScan 2.0 uses ActiveX controls in order to work. These need to be downloaded onto your computer and run for ActiveScan 2.0 to scan your PC.
For this reason, if you see messages requesting your consent to install these controls on your PC, you should allow them to be downloaded and installed. Otherwise, the process will stop.
Do ActiveX controls represent any danger?
Panda ActiveX controls are completely safe. They have a digital signature or authentication certificate in the name of Panda Security, which your Internet browser will notify you of before downloading and running them.
Nothing will be run without your consent, unless you have configured your browser to run these objects without asking you first.
It takes a while for the scan to start. Why?
Before the scan starts, it is necessary to download and install an ActiveX control on your computer. This is only necessary the first time that you use ActiveScan 2.0. Then, and before the scan starts, the components that guarantee detection of the most recent threats must be updated. Under normal circumstances, this process should take just a few minutes. However, this will depend on the speed of your Internet connection and the characteristics of your PC.
What should I do if there is a problem during download?
The Panda ActiveScan 2.0 download may be interrupted or the communication could be lost. This is usually due to deficient communications or communication interruption. In this case, you have to start the download process again. If you use a firewall or a proxy, check it is configured correctly and your PC meets the minimum requirements.
Does ActiveScan 2.0 provide permanent protection?
No, ActiveScan 2.0 is an online scanner that detects threats on your PC at the moment you scan it. ActiveScan 2.0 can protect you while you are using it and can only ensure that your PC is clean at that moment.
To protect your PC permanently you need protection that continuously scans all the actions carried out by your system. For example, every time you open or copy a file (ActiveScan 2.0 doesn’t do this).
What are the advantages of registering?
If you scan your PC without being registered you will be able to find out if your PC is infected, but you will not be able to disinfect any of the threats detected by ActiveScan 2.0.
If you want to disinfect the threats that ActiveScan 2.0 finds on your PC, you have two options:
  • Register free: If you register free, ActiveScan 2.0 will only be able to disinfect some types of threats (viruses, Trojans and worms).
  • Buy the paid version: The paid version will allow you to clean your PC completely, disinfecting all types of threats (spyware, rootkits, hacking tools, spy cookies, viruses, Trojans, etc). You can do this any time you want during the period you have purchased the service for.
If you register or buy the paid version, you will be able to perform custom scans (quick scans, scans of specific files and folders, etc.). Also, if you have the paid version, you will have access to a tech support service that will allow you to resolve any questions that you might have.

What is the difference between a quick scan and a full scan?
If you scan your PC without having registered, ActiveScan 2.0 will perform a full scan of your PC. This will allow you to find out if your computer is infected, but will not let you disinfect the detected threats.
Only by registering or buying the paid version will you be able to choose between a quick scan or a full scan and disinfect threats:
  • Quick scan: It only scans the locations generally used by viruses and checks if there are any active threats on the PC at the time of performing the scan. It only takes a few minutes.
  • Full scan: It carries out an in-depth scan of your PC searching for both active and latent threats (those that are not running at the time of the scan). The duration of this scan will depend on the amount of data on the hard disk and the speed of your PC.
What happens if I close the window when scanning with ActiveScan 2.0 or if I cancel the scan?
To complete the scan and the disinfection satisfactorily you must let these processes finish. If you close the ActiveScan 2.0 window or cancel the scan, you won’t be able to resume it. In that case you will need to start the process again.
Is it possible to scan specific folders or files on my PC?
Yes, you can do so very easily with ActiveScan 2.0. This will allow you to save time when you want to scan one single file or folder, for example.
You can only perform this type of scan if you have registered or you have bought the paid version.
After registering you will have the following options:
  • If you only want to scan your documents, click Other scans > Scan My documents.
  • If you only want to scan your email, click on Other scans > Mail scan.
If you want to scan a specific file or folder, click Other scans > Other scans. In the dialog box that appears, select the directory or folder that you want to scan and click OK.
Once I have finished the scan, how can I disinfect my PC?
After finishing the scan, ActiveScan 2.0 shows the detected threats, classifying them into two groups: those that can be disinfected for free, and those that can only be disinfected if you buy the paid version.
To clean your PC, just click the Disinfect button that appears in each section of the scan results report. If the button is not enabled, it could be due to the following reasons:
  • In the case of threats that can be disinfected for free, make sure you have signed in to ActiveScan 2.0 (you must have previously registered).
  • In the case of threats that can only be disinfected with the paid version of the program, you must have previously bought the product and signed in to ActiveScan 2.0.
If ActiveScan 2.0 does not detect any viruses, does this mean my computer is clean?
If you performed a full scan of your PC and ActiveScan 2.0 didn’t detect any threats, your PC is clean, at least for the moment.
ActiveScan 2.0 performs an in-depth scan of your PC using the latest technologies available, but doesn’t keep your PC permanently protected. For that, you must have an up-to-date antivirus with permanent protection enabled.
How can I get more information about the threats detected?
When the scan is finished, a report is displayed with the threats detected, the suspicious files and the vulnerabilities found on the PC.
The report shows the type of threats detected, their danger level, etc. If you want more information, click the Show link (it shows the path where the threat was detected) and + Info (it gives detailed technical information about the threat in our Virus Encyclopedia).
