Try the betas of Panda Antivirus+Firewall 2008 and Panda Internet Security 2008 and win a PSP

06/20/07.- - Both offer greater malware detection capacity and new anti-rootkit technology. Panda Internet Security 2008 has a PC tune-up feature to improve computer performance and a local backup option

Panda Software has launched the beta versions of Panda Antivirus + Firewall 2008 and Panda Internet Security 2008. Both solutions are Vista-compatible and include a series of new features such as greater malware detection capacity, new low-level scanning for rootkits and a system for blocking malicious web pages, to boost protection against spyware and phishing. Panda Internet Security 2008 also has a PC tune-up feature to improve computer performance and a local backup option.

Both betas can be downloaded free. Panda Software will be holding a prize drawing for 2 PSP (Play Station Portable) among users that download beta versions of Panda Antivirus + Firewall 2008 or Panda Internet Security 2008 and who, after registering, report any incidents.

Current Panda clients will have the opportunity to upgrade free to this new version when they renew their products.

The greater malware detection capacity offered by these solutions has been achieved thanks to an improvement in the processing of signature files, allowing more malicious code to be detected without affecting computer performance. Both Panda Antivirus + Firewall 2008 and Panda Internet Security 2008 include latest generation low-level scanning for detecting rootkits.

“Rootkits are one of the tools most frequently used by cyber-crooks to hide malware. That’s why users need technologies that can seek out these programs and determine whether or not they are associated with malicious processes,” explains Jaime Herrero-Velarde, Consumer Marketing director at Panda.

Another improvement shared by both betas is the blocking of malicious web pages. The system involves a blacklist of malicious web pages that try to download spyware onto computers, or are even designed specifically for online fraud. If the user tries to access one of these pages, the Panda Software solutions will block access and warn them that they are putting their security at risk.

Panda Internet Security 2008, also offers specific new features such as PC Tuneup to help improve computer performance, removing cookies, temporary files, etc.

It also offers a local backup option. This lets users make backup copies of important files and documents. They can select the frequency with which backup copies are made, their location (another hard disk, a USB device, CD, DVD, etc.) and even the type of files to back up.

“The maintenance and optimization tools integrated in PC Tuneup in Panda Internet Security, along with the backup application, are part of Panda’s efforts to bring professional security standards to consumers, providing them with more efficient protection,” explains Herrero-Velarde.

These beta versions are available free from the Beta area of Panda’s website. By testing this version, users will be able to play an active part in its certification and development, sending all suggestions and comments to Beta Area. Once registered in the Panda Software Beta Area, users can access official versions of the programs in the final stage of development.

The beta versions give users the chance to test the functioning of products to identify possible problems. At the same time they offer Panda Software a channel for gathering suggestions and needs from users.

Advantages of registering in Panda Software’s Beta Area:

- You will be able to offer Panda Software suggestions on improving the products you try.
- You will be among the first to access the latest versions of the Panda Software security solutions and share your experiences with us.
- Free technical support via email for the duration of the beta period.
