We previously reported that users affected by ‘batterygate’ might dip in Apple’s $500 million settlement and claim $25. Now, approximately four months later, claims are finally being accepted, and affected users are invited to claim their share from the class action lawsuit. It is relatively easy to submit a claim but first we suggest you check if you are eligible.

Here’s how to know if you were affected by ‘batterygate.’

Affected users are considered iPhone users based in the US who have owned any of the following; iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, and/or SE device that ran iOS 10.2.1 or later before December 21, 2017.

If you were not amongst those, lose no hope as US-based owners of iPhone 7 or 7 Plus devices that ran iOS 11.2 or later before December 21, 2017, are also included in the settlement and are welcomed to submit a claim. If you match any of these criteria you could be entitled to benefits under the class action settlement.

If you are eligible, you can go ahead and submit a claim at https://www.smartphoneperformancesettlement.com/. The easiest way to start your claim is if you know your smartphone’s serial number. However, if the phone is no longer in your possession, you can type in your Apple ID and your address, device type, and full name to fill in the form.

If you are finding trouble locating your device’s serial number, you can go to your settings and see it there. And if the smartphone is no longer in your possession, you can find the needed number on the back of the original packaging, on the original purchase receipt or invoice, on your AppleCare+ proof of purchase. Last but not least, if you’ve traded in the device to a wireless carrier, you should be able to find find the serial number on the trade-in receipt.

If you don’t believe that going through all these hoops and loops for $25 is not worth it perhaps you may rethink your decision. CBS said that Apple has agreed to pay roughly $25 per device but if not enough people end up participating in the lawsuit, the claim reimbursement may increase and be as much as $500. If you’ve had two eligible devices, that may get you a thousand dollars.
