PNGBO is a generic detection for images in PNG format that attempt to exploit the Vulnerability in PNG processing. A brief summary for this vulnerability is available through our website, as MS05-009.
These malformed PNG images allow hackers to gain remote control of the affected computer with the same privileges as the logged-on user, if they are opened with the instant messaging program MSN Messenger 6.1 or 6.2, running on Windows XP/2000 computers.
If the user had administrator rights, the hacker could take complete control of the system: create, modify or delete files, install programs, create new user accounts, etc.
If your Panda solution detects Exploit/PNGBO, it does not necessarily mean that your computer is vulnerable to this exploit. It warns the user of the presence of a malicious PNG file.
It is very recommendable to visit Microsoft's official website and check whether any application vulnerable to Vulnerability in PNG processing is installed on your computer, and if so, apply the corresponding security patch.>
