Witty.A is a worm with destructive effects that spreads through the Internet. It overwrites random sectors of the hard drive, leading to information loss and eventual system failures, depending on the sectors overwritten.
Witty.A exploits a vulnerability in BlackIce's ICQ parser, also known as PAM (Protocol Analysis Module). The affected versions are:
BlackIce Agent for Server 3.6 ecf and earlier.
BlackIce PC Protection 3.6 ccf and earlier.
BlackIce Server Protection 3.6 ccf and earlier.
Other ISS products using this module may also be affected.
If you have any of the products mentioned above installed on your computer, access the web page for updating it.
Witty.A is difficult to recognize, as it does not show any messages or warnings that indicate it has reached the computer.
However, if your computer crashes unexpectedly, it may mean that Witty.A has already deleted hard drive sectors vital to your computer's functioning.
