Backterra.A is a worm without destructive effects that spreads through the peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing program eMule.
Backterra.A tricks the user into thinking that it is a key generator for computer applications and games.
Backterra.A is easy to recognize once it has reached the computer, as it displays the following messages on screen:
If the file sharing program eMule is not installed, it pretends to be a key generator:
If the user inserts any information in the form and pushes the button Make a key
displays an error message:
If eMule is installed on the affected computer but Backterra.A is unable to locate the file SHARE.DAT, it displays the error message above.
Finally, if eMule is installed and Backterra.A locates the file SHARE.DAT, it displays the error message and is ready to spread.
