Dialer.L is a dialer, which establishes a connection to a premium rate number.
Once it is installed on the computer, it displays an icon in the Windows Taskbar, next to the system clock. If the user right-clicks on this icon, an option to uninstall it appears.
If this option is selected, Dialer.L seems to uninstall itself but it remains as a process in memory and does not delete the entry from the Windows Registry. As a result, when the computer is restarted, Dialer.L will remain resident, but this time it will be hidden.
The danger of Dialer.L lies in the fact that it tries to connect to premium rate numbers and, therefore, significantly increases the user's telephone bill.
Dialer.L is easy to identify because:
- It displays an icon in the Windows Taskbar, next to the system clock.
- It creates a shortcut to the file, SPAIN_SEX.EXE or to PORTUGAL_SEX.EXE depending on the version of the dialer, on the Desktop.
