Chick.C is a worm that is easy to recognize because it refers to the latest video clip from the famous singer Shakira.
It spreads rapidly using the following means of transmission:
- E-mail messages with the subject ¡Nuevo video de SHAKIRA!, which includes an attached file called SHAKIRA.CHM.
- By automatically sending the SHAKIRA.CHM file via IRC.
The message text entices the user to open the SHAKIRA.CHM file by claiming that it contains a video clip from Shakira. When the file is opened, however, a window is displayed, which informs the user that ActiveX controls must be enabled. If the user clicks on the Yesbutton in this window Chick.C activates.
Chick.C is not considered dangerous, as its only aim is to spread to other computers. However mass mailing of this virus could cause infected e-mail accounts and IRC chat channels to collapse.
A clear indication that you have received Chick.C is a message with the following characteristics:
¡Nuevo video de SHAKIRA!
Hola he visto el nuevo video de Shakira y me he enamorado de ella. Esta hermosa mujer es hermosa, es impactante me ha hecho respirar y quiero que igual que yo compartas esta emoción. Disfrutalo.
The name of the person that has sent the e-mail is included at the end of the message.
Another warning sign is a file called SHAKIRA.CHM sentthrough IRC.
When the SHAKIRA.CHM file is run, a window is displayed that informs the user that ActiveX controls must be enabled in order to see the video clip from Shakira. For information on this window and the others that appear when infection has been carried out, click here.
