Valentine.A is a worm that spreads rapidly using the following means of transmission:
- E-mail messages with a blank subject line including HTML code in the AutoSignature.
- Automatically sending itself through IRC chat.
It is very easy to get infected with this virus (if Outlook Express 5 is installed). In fact, infection will occur when the message is opened or just viewed through Outlook’s Preview pane. In addition, it sends itself to all the contacts in the Address Book.
Valentine.A has a large number of damaging effects, some of which are destructive: it modifies files, changes the browser home page, sends messages to mobile phones chosen at random, displays MS-DOS windows, etc.
The only symptom of the presence of Valentine.A on the affected computer is an e-mail message with a blank subject (the rest of the characteristics are variable).
When infection has taken place, Valentine.A displays an MS-DOS window.
