| W32/CTX.7066 belongs to the W32 group of viruses affecting 32 bits Windows operating systems (Windows 95, 98 and NT). This is a polymorphic virus that infects executable files (Windows PE, Portable executable). The infection routine varies in order to make detection and disinfection more difficult (polymorphism).|
When an infected file is run, the virus infects executable files found in the current directory, as well as in the C:\WINDOWS and C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directories.
When an infected file is run, the virus searches for PE executable files in the current directory. Once it has infected five executable files in the current folder, it goes on to infect five other files in the C:\WINDOWS directory, and finally carries out the same action in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
