Datacrime is a virus that infects files with a COM extension. Datacrime is considered a very dangerous virus, as it formats the hard disk at a low level, that is, it deletes the information stored on the hard disk, without any possibility of recovering it.
It is easy to be infected by Datacrime as it reaches computers through many different means: e-mail messages with infected attachments, computer networks, CD-ROMs, Internet downloads, FTP, floppy disks, etc.
Datacrime activates when the system date is between April 1 and October 12 of any year.
In addition, when a file has been infected by Datacrime, it displays the following message on screen:
"DATACRIME VIRUS""RELEASED:1 MARCH 1989"
