- It displays texts and warnings every time the user accesses certain options in the main menu.
- It removes the horizontal and vertical scroll bars.
- It disables some options.
It inserts a text in the Word documents that are open .
Like most macro viruses, Astia.U reaches computers in an infected Word 97 document with a DOC extension. From there, it infects the Word global template (NORMAL.DOT file) spreading its infection to all the Word documents that use this template.
Clear indications that Astia.U has infected a computer are:
- Astia.U deletes the horizontal and vertical scroll bars. In addition, it displays a window every time the user accesses the following Word options: View-Toolbar-VisualBasic and Tools-Macro-Macros.
Astia.U only does this if the data is later than September 10, 1999.
If a user attempt to access the following options:
View-Toolbar-Visual Basic Editor and clicks on Yes, the virus will insert the text Macro non-Machiko in the Word documents that are open.
Tools-Macro-Macrosand clicks on Yes, Astia.U inserts the following text in the Word documents that are open:
Macros machiko mungkin tidak bisa Anda hapus, Anda hanya bisa menghapus makro buatan Anda
(Descr: Makro non-Machiko).
