Updater is a mass-mailing worm that spreads via e-mail. It does this by automatically sending itself to all the contacts in Outlook's Address Books.
Updater reaches computers inside a file with an .EXE extension attached to an e-mail message.
When the virus activates, it can copy itself to all the disk drives available (locals and mapped).
Clear indications that Updater has infected a computer are the following symptoms:
The name of the hard drive C: changes to IMELDA.
A dialog box is displayed on screen, which tries to distract the user's attention while it carries out its actions. This dialog box contains the following text.File Open Error
Cannot Open files : It does not appear to be a valid archive
If you Downloaded this file , try dowbkloading the file again.
Similarly, on the 12 of each month, a dialog box is displayed, which contains the following message:VBScript: I-WORM.IMELDA.B
