NewHope is a macro virus that infects Word documents and the global template (NORMAL.DOT file) that this application uses.
NewHope modifies the properties of the Font of the active document. It changes the font size to 42 and the type to Chinese language.
It is easy to become infected by Newhope, as it can reach computers through any of the means normally used by viruses: e-mail messages with infected attachments, computer networks, CD-ROMs, Internet downloads, FTP, floppy disks, etc.
An indication that NewHope has infected a computer is that when the date of the system is a random number between 1 and 12, the virus selects the text of the active document and changes the original format to the format below:
- Size: 42.
- True Type: Chinese.
- Color: Green.
- Effects: Shadow.
- Text effects: Las Vegas lights.
