Opey.A is a macro virus that does not have any dangerous effects, as its main aim is to modify the user data in Word and display text messages on the screen when the computer starts.
Opey.A also infects Word 97 documents and disables Word options. It is activated every time an infected Word 97 document is closed. This document can reach computers through various means: CD-ROMs, e-mail messages with infected attachments, etc...
Opey.A has a list the following visible symptoms:
- Displays different warnings when the starting the computer, depending on the date of the computer:
Decemeber 25: MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!from OPEY A.
November 1: HAPPY HALLOWEEN !!!from OPEY A.
February 14: HAPPY VALENTINES DAY !!! from OPEY A.
To continue it will ask the user to click on any key to start the computer. The message reads: Press any key to continue....
Finally, Opey.A will modify the corresponding user data of the registered Word user, replacing them with the following:
