mIRC.LoveLetter is a worm that arrives in a message that aims to trick users into thinking they have received a love letter. It has very damaging effects, as it deletes the content of all files with a VBS, VBE, JS, JSE, CSS, WSH, SCT, HTA, JPG, JPEG, MP3 and MP2 extension.
mIRC.LoveLetter have particularly serious consequences for corporate networks, as it steals confidential information from the affected computer and sends it to its author.
It spreads very quickly by:
- Sending email messages with an attachment called LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT.VBS.
- Automatically sending messages with the attachment LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.HTM through IRC.
Whenever mIRC.LoveLetter affects a computer, it automatically sends itself out to all the contacts in the Address Book.
A clear indication that you have received mIRC.LoveLetter is an email with the following characteristics:
