Smac.D is a macro virus that reaches computers in an infected Word 97 document, with a DOC extension. From there, it infects Word’s global template (NORMAL.DOT file), spreading to all the Word files generated with it.
Smac.D does not carry out any damaging actions in affected computers, as its only aims are to spread and display a message on screen when an infected document is closed on September 2 or when the Word program is closed on the 13th of any month.

Visible Symptoms | |
Smac.D is very easy to recognize, as it displays a dialog box on screen if:
- The date is September 2 and the user closes an infected document.
- The date is the 13th of any month and the user closes Word.
