ColdApe.A is a macro virus that reaches computers in an infected Word document (a file with a DOC extension). This document then infects the Word template (NORMAL.DOT file) and spreads infection to every Word document generated with it.
It does not have destructive effects, but causes some inconveniences to users:
- It sends e-mail messages from the infected computer to firstname.lastname@example.org. These messages, which have not been proved to have a harmful effect, include the following text:
Dear Nicky... my name is <User_Name> and I want to make hot monkey love with you. You anti-virus stud!.
- It modifies Visual Basic Script files (files with a VBS extension).
