Eight941.K is a macro virus that activates on July 1 and November 10 and infects the Word documents it finds on the hard disk drive.
Eight941.K also modifies certain Word options by disabling the access to section Properties in the File menu of the infected documents. In addition, Eight941.H assigns a password to the documents, so these documents can only be opened by entering the correct password.
Eight941.K does not spread automatically using its own means. It needs the attacking user's intervention in order to reach the affected computer. The means of transmission used include, among others, floppy disks, CD-ROMs, e-mail messages with attached files, Internet downloads, FTP, IRC channels, peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing networks, etc.
Eight941.K is easy to identify once it has infected the computer, as it asks users to enter a password before opening an infected Word document. If the user enters the password XYZ, the document will be opened. If the user enters any other value, the virus will deny access to the document.
