ColdApe.L is a macro virus that steals confidential information from the affected computer and sends it out via e-mail to the virus creator.
ColdApe.L infects Word 97 documents, which then infect Word’s global template (NORMAL.DOT file) and spreads its infection to every Word document generated with it. It also infects documents written in the programming language Visual Basic Script.
ColdApe.L is difficult to identify, as it does not display any warnings or messages that indicate that it has infected a computer.
An indication that ColdApe.L has reached your computer is the appearance of the files A4.VBS and HAPPY.VBS in the root directory of the hard drive.
