Melissa.W is a macro virus that reaches computers in an infected Word 2001 document. By using this version, it can infect files created both for the Windows and Macintosh versions of Word.
Like most macro viruses, Melissa.W reaches computers in an infected Word document. This document infects Word’s global template (NORMAL.DOT file), spreading its infection to all Word files generated with it.
Melissa.W does not carry out any dangerous actions on the infected computers, as its only aim is to spread via e-mail in a Word 2001 document attached to a message with the following subject: Impotant Message From <user´s name>.
