Assilem.A is a macro virus that carries out its most destructive action on Word documents that are open when infection takes place (as long as the minute value matches the current day): it modifies the content of Word documents, by adding a text written in English.
In addition, like most macro viruses:
- It reaches computers in an already infected Word 97 document (DOC extension). Then, it infects Word’s global template (NORMAL.DOT), thereby spreading infection to all the documents based on this template.
- It disables the macro virus protection in Word 97, in order to prevent users from handling macros in Word 97 documents.
However, Assilem.A adds the following text to Word documents currently open (as long as the current day matches the minute value):
Twenty-two points, plus triple-word-score, plus fifty points for using all my letters. Game's over. I'm outta here.
