Bottra.A is a macro virus that reaches computers in an infected Word document, with a DOC extension. This document then spreads its infection to every Word document generated with it.
Its destructive payload consists of preventing users from accessing macros in Word documents, and disabling this program’s macro antivirus protection.
It is easy to get infected by Bottra.A, because it can use any means of transmission to reach other systems as an already infected Word document, for instance, e-mail messages, computer networks, CD-ROMs, Internet downloads, FTP, floppy disks, etc.
The only symptom that might indicate the presence of Bottra.A on the system is the fact that the dialog box that allows users to enable or disable macros, will not be displayed upon opening a Word document containing them.
