MS07-025 is not categorized as virus, worm, Trojan or backdoor. It is a critical vulnerability in several versions of Office, which allows arbitrary code to be remotely executed in the vulnerable computer.
Affected versions are:
- Office 2007: Excel 2007, Publisher 2007, SharePoint Designer 2007 and Expression Web.
- Office 2003: Excel 2003, FrontPage 2003 and Publisher 2003.
- Office XP: Excel 2002, FrontPage 2002 and Publisher 2002.
- Office 2000: Excel 2000, FrontPage 2000 and Publisher 2000.
- Office 2004 for Mac.
If exploited successfully, MS07-025 allows hackers to gain remote control of the affected computer with the same privileges as the logged on user. If this user had administrator rights, the hacker could take complete control of the system: create, modify or delete files, install programs, create new user accounts, etc.
This vulnerability is usually exploited by creating a specially crafted file that can be sent via email or hosted in a web page.
