Ajax is an adware program that displays advertising pop-ups based on the searches made by the user through Google.
Additionally, it registers itself as a BHO (Browser Helper Object). This way, it activates itself whenever the Internet browser is run.
Ajax is downloaded after visiting a certain website, which uses a exploit in order to download and run it. The user receives a link to this website through several means, such as email, instant messaging, etc.
