Brief Description

Alabama is a resident virus that infects executable files with an EXE extension. This virus displays a message on-screen. In addition, it substitutes the file the user wants to execute.

Visible Symptoms

First of all, one hour after the infection takes place, the virus displays the following message on-screen:

"SOFTWARE COPIES PROHIBITED BY INTERNATIONAL LAW.............. Box 1055 Tuscambia ALABAMA USA"

Alabama goes memory resident. It cannot however be eliminated using the Ctrl +Alt + Del key combination. If you do this, the virus will simulate a reboot and remain memory resident.

Finally, every Friday the virus will look for a new file to infect and will execute it instead of the file the user actually wants to execute.
