This feature shows the Wi-Fi networks that you are connected to, as well as the devices that are connected to those Wi-Fi networks. This is particularly helpful to find out if someone is stealing your Wi-Fi connection.
If you are connected to multiple networks at the same time through different devices, it will show which devices are connected to each network.
To use the Wi-Fi Monitor, make sure the Wireless Network Setup Wizard is available on your Windows XP® device.
Bear in mind that some hardware manufacturers provide their own configuration software that replaces the Wireless Zero Configuration service that is provided in Windows®. If that is your case, you will not be able to use the Wi-Fi Monitor feature.
To enable this protection, click the Wi-Fi Protection section in the main window of the program. Move the toggle to the ON position.
Alternatively, you can enable it through the Settings menu. Click the
icon and select Settings. Then,
click Wi-Fi Protection.
You can choose to be notified when you connect to networks with a medium or low security level, or networks with a low security level only.
Click the settings icon. Next to the Display a notification when connecting to Wi-Fi networks with security problems option, move the toggle to the ON position.
From the drop-down menu, select whether you want to be notified of networks with a medium or low security level, or networks with a low security level only.
You can choose not to be notified of the same network twice, either because the network is trusted or for any other reason. In that case, the network will be added to the list of trusted Wi-Fi networks.
Network information: You can see the Wi-Fi networks you are connected to. Along with the name of the network, you can see the network security level (green for high-security networks, yellow for medium-security networks, and red for low-security networks). In the upper-right corner, if you are connected to more than one Wi-Fi network, you can see the total number of networks. An arrow enables you to move from one window to the next.
Device information: In the Devices connected to (network name) section, you can see which devices are connected to each Wi-Fi network. Remember that you must move the toggle next to the network you have selected to the ON position.
You can analyze the security of a Wi-Fi network for potential vulnerabilities, and get recommendations to improve network security. To see the audit, click the button that indicates the security of the Wi-Fi network.
This analysis checks these aspects:
Authentication and encryption
Connection mode.
Computer-to-computer connection (ad hoc networks).
Changes to the network usual signal strength.
Network name.
Channel saturation.
The information is presented in these columns:
Shows the devices (PCs, tablets, smartphones, etc.) that are connected to the network. If the computer or device cannot access your PC, the icon appears next to the device name. If access is allowed, the icon appears next to the device name.
A unique 48-bit hexadecimal identifier assigned to a network adapter or network interface card.
The date and time when the Wi-Fi Monitor first detected the connection.
Click a device to open the Device details window. From this window, you can:
Create an alias for the device for easy identification. In the Name text box, enter a name for the device.
Block access to your PC from the device. Move the toggle to the ON position.
You can view a list of all devices that have connected to a Wi-Fi network over a period of time (daily, weekly or monthly). Click the View detailed report link.
