How do I configure the IPS in Panda GateDefender Integra?

Information applies to:

Products
Panda GateDefender Integra 100
Panda GateDefender Integra 300

The first step before modifying the default settings is to select the Enable the IPS check box. If this check box is disabled, you will not be able to define the global IPS configuration variables or predefined rules settings.

Steps for enabling the IPS protection

  1. Select IPS in the panel on the left.
  2. Click on General settings. At the top of this window, there is a section called General protection status and at the bottom, there is a section called Global IPS configuration variables.
  3. To enable the IPS protection, select the Enable IPS check box in the General protection status section.

After enabling the IPS protection, you need to configure the predefined intrusion prevention system (IPS) rules. These rules are based on detection patterns or signatures included in the IDS Signature File. Each new version of this file will allow the IPS to detect more intrusion attempts and more effectively. Panda GateDefender Integra lets you enable, disable, modify and restore predefined rules for detecting and responding to possible intrusions.

Panda GateDefender also lets you filter the intrusion prevention system rules in order to simplify management.

Steps to configure the predefined rules

  1. Click on the IPS option in the main Panda GateDefender Integra menu.
  2. Click on Predefined rules to access the screen that contains a list of existing predefined rules. Each entry includes:

    • Enabled: Use this check box to enable or disable the rule or group of rules. If the rules within a group do not have the same status (enabled/disabled), this option will be shaded. Click on Restore settings to restore the initial status (enabled/disabled) of the rules and groups of rules.
    • ID: Number that identifies the rule.
    • Name: Descriptive name of the rule or the group in which it is included. In the case of a group, use the triangular button next to the name to expand or collapse the group content.
    • Action: Action to be taken by the rule. This can be:

      • Report: Sends a warning to the administrator.
      • Deny: Denies access.
  3. To modify a specific rule, select it and click on the Modify button at the bottom. You can also add comments. Comments must not exceed 255 characters.

Steps for filtering predefined rules

  1. Click on the IPS option in the main Panda GateDefender Integra menu.

    • Click on Predefined rules.
    • Click on the Filter link, to access the IPS protection filter rules settings.
  2. In the window displayed, complete one or more of the fields that appear:

    • ID: Enter the ID of the rule you want to filter in the corresponding text box.
    • Name: You can enter the name of the rule to filter.
    • Action: Action that the rule used for this filter will take. Select the action from the drop-down menu

      • All
      • Report
      • Deny
  3. Enable the Keep the filter as the default configuration if you want to use the filter being configured as the default filter.
  4. Click on Disable filter to disable the filter being configured. Otherwise, do not select this check box.
  5. Click on OK to save the changes. Otherwise, click on Cancel.
