Working with Médecins Sans Frontières in the fight against AIDS.

Medicos Sin Fronteras

In line with its commitment to providing humanitarian aid to those that most need it, Panda Software will be collaborating with the integrated project for the prevention and treatment of infection by HIV/AIDS, promoted by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in the Busia district of Kenya.

The objective of the project is to reduce the transmission of HIV and to enable as many people as possible to receive treatment and sanitary aid. The program also embraces psychological support, advice and training for health workers and preventive action aimed at various groups (old people, associations).

In 1999, Kenya declared AIDS a “national emergency”. There are an estimated two million people affected by the disease, and some 500 people a day are dying from it. Almost 220,000 people need urgent treatment, but no hospital in the country offers antiretroviral treatment (ARV). The district of Busia, in which the Médecins Sans Frontières program supported by Panda Software is centered, has one of the highest rates (17%) of AIDS of the whole country.

In operation since 1971, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) (http://www.msf.es/) is an international humanitarian aid organization set up to help populations in a precarious situation and the victims of natural or man-made disasters and armed conflicts. The work of this organization was recognized with the award of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999.
